Product Description
The new Velo 8 computer is CatEye's entry-level 8 functions computer. The bracket requires no tools and is simple to use. Like the Velo 5, It features a new, larger screen and a large button for easy operation.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't have been easier, works perfectly   July 10, 2010

I purchased this after doing reviews on Amazon and going to REI to see their selection. As I was looking at the selection in REI I used my bb to purchase this one from Amazon as it was $18 cheaper at Amazon. It came in 2 days (I am prime) and I installed it in about 5 minutes. It really was easy to install and set up following the instructions. I immediately went on a 6 mile ride and it calculated everything perfectly. I am a beginning rider having just purchased a Hybrid Trek 7100. The only change I would make is when installing to make sure you put the sensor lower on the bike than it shows in the instructions to make sure it is close enough to register with the computer magnet.

4 out of 5 stars Nice with a few flaws   June 13, 2010

I like this little computer with a few exceptions:
- The reset button on the back of the unit got hung in the cylinder that it runs through causing the unit to be in an infinite "Reset" mode. After getting out the magnifying glass I was able to use a needle to get it aligned properly in the hole and the unit would reset. WHEN RESETTING, DON'T PUSH THE BUTTON IN TO FAR!
- The tie wraps are way to brittle, two of them broke during installation but there were extras in the kit. I will replace them all with better ones when I get the chance
- The magnet is not very secure and while riding fast will have a tendancy to move out towards the rim (centrifical fource#, I put a dab of shoe goo on the spoke #they are 14 gauge high polished stainless) where the magnet tightens to it to keep it secure (let it dry)and that has worked fine.
After I delt with these issues, the unit works just fine. I like the different modes as well as the ability to set it up for your exact wheel and tire size and although small it is somewhat easy to read although not so easy with polarized sunglasses. I find that I can view it the best set up parallel to the road surface but this is a personal preference. It is a nice little unit, just don't press the reset button in too far! You will get very frustrated.........

5 out of 5 stars Great Computer   June 5, 2010

I like this computer, ez to install. It does everything I need, counts calories, distance, speed & keeps the time of day. It didn't have a sticky pad on the hardware but E mailed the company and they sent a whole new hardware kit right away. Great product, Great company.

I was very happy with a Cateye computer that I used back in the 90s. When I started biking again recently I couldn't find my old computer so I bought a Velo 8 as a replacement.
It works well, providing all the basics at a reasonable price.
Two small negatives about it
1. The cable is only long enough to reach the front wheel. This means you won't be able to use it on an indoor trainer. There's an extension cable available from Cateye, but then you're spending another $10.
2. The twist ties, when cut, present sharp edges that hurt when brushed against. My Cateye in the 90s used a screw, which was a better experience, but probably cost Cateye 5 cents more.

I had been using my first Cateye for 15 year without any problem. This is my second one, good price, easy to setup and operate.
