4 out of 5 stars Ultra Endurance Racing Tool   December 22, 2009

2004 It all started with the Death Ride out in CA, 6 Mtn passes in 156 miles, Alaska Fireweed 400, Furnace Creek 508, Adiraondak 540, Sebring 24 hour challenge, not to mention the limitless number of centuries and multiple centuries it took to train for these races. My #1 tool was my VDO computer with critical information such as grade and temperature. RAAM solo, for those familiar with this race, on the Parade route to the Official start I lost my computer, my Crew Chief had removed it to take a picture of the mileage (all 0's), and did not snap it on properly, a bumpy road, the middle of the peleton and no way to retrieve it, I had nothing! My crew had one overnighted from Glenside, PA to Durango CO. The Rockies were tough without this tool I have grown to depend on. Finally back on the bike with my "coach" VDO computer.
Could not have Engineered RAAM without this tool, something you should consider and I recommend for Ultra Endurance or any cyclist.

3 out of 5 stars Not Compatible with DuoTrap   November 14, 2009

I'm sure the VDO Z1 is a solid bike computer, but I haven't used it yet. I purchased the VDO Z1 because of its ANT+ Sport compatibility. Unfortunately, I was unable to pair the VDO Z1 with my Bontrager DuoTrap speed/cadence sensor. I was informed by VDO customer service (who responded quickly to my email inquiry) that although both the DuoTrap and Z1 operate on an ANT+ Sport protocol, the two components are not compatible and cannot be paired. Very disappointing. I purchased the Bontrager Node 1, which lacks an altimeter, and had no problem pairing. Still think the Z1 is feature packed and a good product. I will sell it or install it on my mountain bike.
