4 out of 5 stars All that I needed - for 9 months   August 3, 2010
Jomama (San Jose, CA)
I bought this unit in Nov '09 and have thoroughly enjoyed it's convenience & accuracy.
I like it so much that I'm buying a replacement as ever since it took a bad jolt on a bridge grating on the STP ride last month it's been giving false readings. I tried changing both the receiver and transmitter batteries but it's lost its "mind". It will register .01 - .03 miles before I even move forward & no matter what size I set my wheel size at, it always reads to 'long'. I have a par course with mile markers & spent hours trying to calibrate the darn thing. I 'rebooted' it 3 times (pin in the little hole in the back)but that didn't help either. Another symptom that I may have shaken some diode loose is that it displays 1.5 mph long after I've stopped. When I'm riding, the mph will fluctuate between say 16mph & back down to 14.5 in an instant & I know I haven't changed speed.
Since my warranty with Amazon ran out in Jan '10, I just ordered a new one yesterday.
Hey the STP ride was a blast so I've decided to just scratch this up to an equipment loss.

4 out of 5 stars VDO MC1.0+ cycle computer   July 16, 2010
David M. Klinger (Evergreen, CO, United States)
I have been very pleased with the data provided and especially the alititude and grade percent information. The elevation seems to be very accurate, but is sometimes affected to some degree by the weather. While the absolute elevation may have some tolorance, the distance climbed is right on. On the downside, the information on the left side is too small for me to read, especially while riding. Static information such as which wheel data is being used does not need to be displayed all of the time. The same goes for the mph or kph indicator. The biggest complaints that I have are with the mounting base and the design for installing and removing the computer head along with the two pins that bring the computer into an active state. First, too much effort is required to install or remove the computer. The zip strips that hold the base on the handlebar are stretched when installing the computer and the base rotates. If there is not sufficient down pressure, the computer does not engage and will fall right off even after rotating the computer to its detented position. After 2 months of use, I have started having an issue with the computer not recognizing that it is in the base and starting to display data when a ride is started. I have recently contacted the manufacturer and have not heard what their response is.

3 out of 5 stars Flimsy mountings   April 27, 2010
John Neville
Lost the main computer head on a ride tonight because of a few minor bumps. I like the functions other than an altimeter requiring constant recalibration. But the mountings are just really low quality. Lost the main computer tonight and now what do I do now with this after paying $120 plus?

Update:

I contacted Amazon about this problem and they immediately sent me a new replacement unit. Their customer service is OUTSTANDING. I will continue to use Amazon for many purchase in the future. Thanks Amazon.com!!!!

However, I still think the mounting method for the transmitter and computer head piece should be enhanced because these thin wire ties that hold them seem very vulnerable to breakage. At least use a thicker wire tire VDO. These thin wire ties are risky for securing the relative costly components.

5 out of 5 stars It sure works for me!   March 20, 2010
Steve Anderson (Folsom, CA)
About the only weak point for this product is the way it attaches/detaches from its mount. Which is why I bought a second one after losing the first. Just make sure it locks itself in when you mount it.

To save money on the replacement, I opted to buy a "used" one, which meant the box had been opened/damaged. Saved about $20 for the damage I might have caused had I opened a pristine box. No big deal.

Functionally, a great product. True, it doesn't tell you where to turn, so if that is important, spend the extra couple hundred on a GPS. Temp, incline gradient, total altitude climbed, working on multiple bikes, etc. I love it, which is why I replaced it after hours of searching that mile of bike trail where the first one went AWOL. Was hard to ride for a few days without it.

5 out of 5 stars Does what is says it will!   November 13, 2009
Kurt J. Kummerfeldt (Lompoc, CA USA)
Got this little gem after trying and returning a Vetta of the same style, and LOVE it! All of my rides include much climbing, and this was a less expensive alternative to a Garmin to track my climbs. Easy install and set up. Use during ride is simple. Display is easy to read, even while climbing. So far, no interference from other computers on group rides.
If HR and cadence are not needed, I HIGHLY recommend this computer!
